Gender and human rights is given utmost consideration in all LUSU social, economic and other activities. Programmes that empower women and girls like Gender Based Violence, promotion of girl education, equal access to employment opportunities, control and access to resources, increased participation in decision making at all levels among others are promoted under this Department. LUSU also promotes protection of human rights of all vulnerable groups of our communities including the disabled, orphans elderly among others.

LUSU undertakes Community Development Programmes aimed at promoting capacity building on the rights based approach including rights and responsibilities of people with disabilities, vulnerable orphans, people living with HIV/AIDS among others, civic education, litigation and human rights protection, role of duty bearers and community (rights holders). It also involves lobbying for policy review in light of the rights based approach and addressing gaps.
